About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The Four Seasons were never in a class with Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers or Little Anthony & the Imperials, and Franki Valli's voice tended to sound shrill. But despite their imperfections, Valli and friends came up with their share of fun, enjoyable teen pop in the early '60s. In fact, it's hard to imagine the early '60s without teen pop favorites like "Candy Girl" and "Big Girls Don't Cry." Spanning 1962-1965, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 boasts many of the Newark, NJ, group's definitive early hits, including "Stay," "Walk Like a Man," "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry." and "Candy Girl." One hears the group maturing somewhat on 1965's classic, Beach Boys-influenced "Bye, Bye, Baby," which became a major hit for the Bay City Rollers in 1975. Obviously, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 isn't meant to be an in-depth study of Valli and the Four Seasons, but for the casual listener, this CD and its companion, Vol. 2, are easily recommended. A good deal in spite of the BOX setby RatPackFan

November 22, 2009: Considering that I needed this along with its companion volume to do a Rolling Stone list of 100 best singers, I was always looking toward the big Four Seasons BOX SET which has been available up to July of this year! Well, I went to get that and again it was a case of better get it while you can. So I settled for the single volumes but I AM NOT disappointed. They have all the hits that the Four Seasons were known for, and the sound quality is great. So a mistake by me still results in me getting another chunk of my childhood music memory back and in better quality than ever! My highest recomendation and one I think any 60's music lover will be happy with. Besides, there were more groups besides the Rolling Stones and The Beatles happening then!

March 09, 2009: Purchased the CD to download on my Ipod which I take to work and listen to off and on all day. The music is the music of my youth and I really enjoy listening to it again. Having the opportunity to enjoy this music tends to make me feel younger as well as to brighten my day and my attitude.
