Faron Young was able to smooth out the edges of Hank Williams' honky tonk style just enough to take it uptown a bit, and the pop flourishes he added gave him a streak of big hits in the '50s, including "If You Ain't Lovin'," "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young," "Sweet Dreams," "Alone with You," and "Country Girl," all of which are included in this brief but succinct set of his early A-sides. Also here is the version of Willie Nelson's "Hello Walls" that Young took to the top of the charts in 1961. Young continued to have minor hits into the '80s, but the heart and soul of his legacy, the barest essentials of it, are here. Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
