About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Julie Andrews' Greatest Christmas Songs goes above and beyond its title, combining holiday favorites such as "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem," "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen," and "The Bells of Christmas" from her 1966 Christmas album with standards such as "Cheek to Cheek" and "Falling in Love With Love" from 1958's Julie Andrews Sings. Regardless of where they came from originally, all of the selections show off Andrews' buoyant, graceful voice. Greatest Christmas Songs is worthwhile for Andrews fans as well as anyone dreaming of a nostalgic yet sophisticated Christmas. Heather Phares, All Music Guide

August 29, 2001: This album is a reissue of her ''A Christmas Treasure'' Album from the mid 60s. Her voice and exquisite diction are never clearer - qualities that are supported by RCAs excellent miking and the spaciousness of the orchestra , miked at a discreet distance behind her. The conductor is Andre Previn (MGM wunderkind conductor of the 50s; jazz pianist, classical pianist and now legendary classical conductor) and his arrangements and orchestrations are elaborate, classic-style and tasteful, setting a wonderful atmosphere. Julie sing the British melodies to ''Away In A Manger'', O Little Town of Bethlehem'' and ''It Came Upon A Midnight Year'' as well as other carols from the British Isles such as ''Sunnybank'', ''Wexford Carol'' and ''Irish Carol'' - versions that are the mainstay of British choirs at Christmas. A superb selection showing the trueness of her voice, her ability to transport a melody and (again) her astonishing enunciation and wonderful phrasing and breath control.
