With songs from cumbia superstars La India Meliyara and Lisandro Meza (Meliyara both as a solo artist and with her group, La Sonora Dinamita, and Meza alone, though his former group, Los Corraleros de Majagual -- whose "La Burrita" is included here -- of which he is a founder, is also featured) as well as its fair share of relatively unknown fillers (which isn't to say that they're bad), Grandes Clasicos de la Cumbia ends up being a pretty decent collection. Meliyara's voice sounds great, as usual, especially on "Cumbia Universal" and "Ay Chave," and Meza's rhythmic accordion brings just the right percussive accents to "Sin Alma y Sin Corazón," while coming up to the forefront on "Las Tapas." Pastor Lopez adds three tracks ("Golpe con Golpe," "Fue por una Cerveza," "El Hijo Ausente") and Edmundo Arias adds one ("La Luna y el Pescador") to complete the three-disc set (27 songs in total), which makes Grandes Clasicos de la Cumbia an overall successful album and a fun listen.
