Something like the umpteenth Patti LaBelle anthology -- roughly the tenth to be released in the 2000s alone -- Gold is a two-disc compilation that works in some of the singer's hits with the Bluebelles ("Down the Aisle," "I'm Still Waiting," "Over the Rainbow") and LaBelle ("Lady Marmalade," "What Can I Do for You," "Isn't It a Shame") while featuring an impressive run of charting solo singles that spans four decades, from 1977's "Joy to Have Your Love" through 2004's "New Day." Due to its breadth and straightforward approach, Gold is one of the best introductions to Patti LaBelle's career that's available. Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
