Editorial Reviews

Since their 1985 breakup, the Go-Go's -- the most successful all-female band of their time -- have regrouped many times to tour, but God Bless the Go-Go's is their first new album since 1984's coolly received Talk Show. So the question is: Have Belinda, Jane, Charlotte, Kathy, and Gina -- now in their early 40s and sporting a youthful, pogo-instigating sound -- still got the beat? One spin through the searing first single, "Unforgiven," provides a resounding yes. With an assist from Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong -- who co-wrote the tune and contributes guitar and background vocals to the mix -- "Unforgiven" fuses the fire of the gals' Hollywood Boulevard upbringing with their girl-group-inspired harmonies, surf-bred guitar licks, and chiming, Beatle-esque melodies. Other highlights include the let's-start-a-party vibe of "La La Land," the driving pep and irresistible chorus of "Stuck in My Car" (which revolves around that Go-Go's hallmark, a relationship-automobile metaphor), and the melancholy but uplifting "Automatic Rainy Day." While the ladies indeed lose the beat on the string-laden ballad "Here You Are" and the coy confessional "Daisy Chain" -- maybe the amps should stay on 11-- for fans of punk-fueled pop music who lament the untimely passing of Joey Ramone in 2001, the Go-Go's' triumphant reemergence offers a ray of California sunshine. August 13, 2001: This is the best CD of the year by far. Theses girls have given us their all!! Belinda's voice is stronger then ever. The girls can still rock out with tunes like ''Stuck In My Car'', ''Kissing Asphalt'' and ''Unforgiven''. They also hit home with some honest and insightful songs such as; ''Apology''(The best song on the CD} and the anthem for all of us out there who dont have the so called perfect body, ''Throw me a Curve''. If you havent gotten this CD yet, you need to. You won't be sorry!!..I guarantee it!!! Let me know what you think.

August 05, 2001: This is a great album! As an avid Go-Go's fan, I picked it up, knowing it was their first album in 17 years. And wow, after that you're nearly blown away! It includes several hits in the making!
