Editorial Reviews

Unlike other country diva collections, no women outshine or overshadow any of the others on this harmless CD, a compilation including three performances each from Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Mindy McCready, and Lorrie Morgan. Morgan's contributions "The Heart That Jack Broke" and "Good as I Was to You" demonstrate the most thigh-slappin' estrogenated chutzpah in this crowd. Martina McBride's selections offer evidence that she is the most accomplished, well-trained vocalist heard here, as she belts out Gretchen Peters' "Independence Day" (the track that established her career) with conviction and the promise-filled "'Til I Can Make It on My Own" with sincerity. Radio-dial darling Mindy McCready ("Ten Thousand Angels," "Over and Over") displays that she has a clear and competent voice but lacks subtlety, yet she readily offers more surprise than the others. Sara Evans is the songwriter of the bunch with "Three Chords and the Truth" (her debut single) and a cover of "Almost New." She possesses the purest "country" voice in the pack. ~ Becky Byrkit & Thom Jurek, All Music Guide All Music Guide
