About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

It’s been told that jazz giant John Coltrane once said of Stan Getz that all saxophonists would sound like him if they could. Apocryphal or not, the comment rings true. Getz’s tone is just that gorgeous; he wasn't dubbed “the Sound” for nothing. The stunning tone was also a key reason why Getz became one of the most popular jazz musicians of all time. This well-chosen set collects some typically superb ballad performances, ranging from the bossa nova of “Corcovado,” “O Grande Amor,” and the classic “Girl from Ipanema” to tried-and-true standards like “Moonlight in Vermont,” “Little Girl Blue,” and “Here’s That Rainy Day” to more contemporary fare such as “The Look of Love” and “Alfie.” The tenor master handles it all with the lyrical acumen and melodic sophistication that made him a legend. Although Getz could also tackle up-tempo swingers with aplomb, those drawn to his ballad wizardry will find much to savor here. Steve Futterman, Barnes & Noble

September 08, 2005: I haven't been into Jazz for a while, in fact, I'm only a college student so when I finally decided that the Girl From Ipanema was just too good to give up, I decided to get this CD purely for this Track. When I got it, I couldn't take it out of my CD player. I'm in love with this CD and it's the absolute BEST thing on those really cold nights. I even listen to it while I'm doing homework, that's how much I adore this cd! Best gift ever, really!
