August 30, 2004:
I remember hearing 'George Harrison' when it was new, back in late spring of 1979 (about the same time as McCartney & Wings' 'Back to the Egg' - it was a good time for Beatles fans during those 70's solo years). It struck me as being generally happier and more positive than much of his previous work ("Blow Away" and "Love Comes to Everyone" come to mind). Not much in the way of what I thought was 'whiney weepy preachy' Harrison (which was there on 'All Things Must Pass' but really took hold on 'Living in the Material World'). Also, except for "Not Guilty", not much in the way of acerbic, biting, I've-a-bone-to-pick Harrison (which I always liked in Harrison's lyrics) ... but on 'George Harrison', it seems that the sun really came out to shine this time for him). If you like good middle of the road, quality adult pop/rock from your ex-Beatles, this is for you.
