About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

On Gemini, R&B lover man Brian McKnight lives up to his star sign and displays a split musical personality, alternating between diehard romantic and sly Lothario. The disc finds the recently divorced crooner still in a sentimental mood. And with lyrical sweet nothings sprinkled throughout the falsetto harmonies of "Here with You" and lush orchestration defining the slow-motion jam "Everytime You Go Away" (not a cover of the Hall & Oates classic), it's clear that McKnight still knows how to make women swoon. Yet he unleashes his inner canine on several tracks, including "What We Do Here," where he propositions a groupie for a dressing room quickie, and the self-explanatory thumper "Grown Man Business." In keeping with 2003's U Turn, which featured street-credible cameos by Nelly and Fabolous, McKnight recruits roots rapper Talib Kweli and neo-soul singer Musiq for "She," a jam with swirling keyboards and dreamy harmonies that recalls early-'70s Marvin Gaye. Equally notable are appearances by New Orleans rappers Juvenile and Skip, along with new jack singer Akon on the hip-hop-flavored "Watcha Gonna Do?" Obviously, McKnight is trying hard to connect with a younger audience and prove he's a player, but he's still one of the greatest balladeers around. When he yields to his softer side, Gemini is a satisfying listen. Dave Gil de Rubio, Barnes & Noble

March 19, 2005: I am a huge fan of Brian McKnight and I purchased this CD to add to my collection. I was very disappointed with this CD. The songs are so unlike any of his other CD's, I hope this is not the direction that he will be taking for future albums, or he might lose a huge fan! I am just glad that I ordered it with a gift card, and didn't spend my money on it.
