Gangsters and DJ's Box is a four-disc box set from Thump that binds together a trio of compilations: Old Town Gangster Hits, Deadly DJ Cuts, and the second volume of the West Coast Gambinos series. Old Town Gangster Hits and West Coast Gambinos concentrate on hardcore Latin rap from the West Coast, while Deadly DJ Cuts takes a completely different theme, highlighting the wizardry of turntablists like DJ Shadow, Peanut Butter Wolf, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Mix Master Mike, and Cut Chemist. It would've made a lot more sense to include West Coast Gambinos, Vol. 1 instead of the DJ-centric set. The set would retain some thematic consistency. But, instead, this looks a lot more like a cheapo box that was randomly thrown together just to get another release on the market. Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
