About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Not entirely a greatest-hits package, Jars of Clay's newest is a 2-CD set consisting of 11 live recordings, plus acoustic reworkings of eight big hits and two new tracks.. One gets the sense that the Jars guys really just wanted to tinker with all that new studio equipment they bought to record The Eleventh Hour, though, and these tracks are really for the Jars completist. The acoustic tracks are sparse, mostly featuring Dan Haseltine's vocals and simple guitar, with few background vocals or other instrumentation. This is fine on a simple ballad like "Needful Hands," but "Liquid," which was such perfection in its original form, lacks spark. New tracks "The Valley Song (Sing of Your Mercy)" and "Dig" are slow, intriguing ballads that would benefit from a little more production. Things get jazzed up considerably on the live end, with rocking takes on signature hits "Disappear," "Like a Child," and "Flood." Jars have always been an energetic live band, and it's here that Furthermore wakes from its acoustic slumber and sizzles. Fans who enjoy hearing the live Jars can get more with the group's 11 Live: Jars of Clay in Concert DVD, which contains versions of several big hits not offered here -- "Collide" and "Unforgetful You," to name two. Jars delivers againby Anonymous

February 23, 2003: The live portion of this set is what makes this a five star set. If you have not seen a Jars of Clay concert, you should. The group is truly amazing live. With talent and finesse, the group takes the stage and delivers the hits with a passion that cannot be obtained through a studio recording. With their talent, they tell people of christianity and Jesus Christ in words that people of today can understand. Their acoustic disc makes the songs a little more introspective than the originals, though it lacks some of the driving folk style rock that the band is known for. However, I enjoyed the acoustic CD as much as I enjoyed the live CD. The different arrangements are refreshing and fun to listen to. If you are interested enough to read this review, I would suggest you buy the album.
