MCA Special Products' Funk #49 is a good sampling of the James Gang's classic years with Joe Walsh. Even though it is just a budget-priced collection -- and thereby falls prey to all the slapdash production of its ilk (particularly in the hideous, bumblebee-colored cover) -- it's actually an excellent cross-section of the band's work, containing the great majority of the trio's best tracks of the era, including "Midnight Man," "Yadig?," "There I Go Again," "Again," "Walk Away," "Funk #48" and "Funk #49."
