About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Thursday displays a peerless version of the emo sound for a music scene that may not be ready for what the band has to offer. Full Collapse starts out with a warm, daydreamt piece, "Understanding in a Car Crash," that might give listeners a feeling that they are listening to a more modern, upbeat version of the Cure. While generating intelligent music, Thursday does its best to skirt the line of emo-pop without being unexciting or blasé. The key to this possibility lies behind the music that Thursday creates. Lead singer Geoff Rickly's vocals are smooth yet not immature, strong while not being overbearing. Icy sharp backup screams catch the listener off guard. The melodic-to-crunchy guitars followed by the well-engineered drum sound and rhythmic bass only add to the fray. Tracks such as "Cross Out the Eyes" lull the listener with the thought that Thursday may be another in a long line of monotonous emo-pop bands; however, at the appropriate moment the guitars start to feedback and the screams kick in. Taking emocore up a notch, Thursday is not afraid to develop a sound that the independent music scene has been in favor of for quite some time. Full Collapse is a breath of fresh air and has the potential to be liked by fans of harder music everywhere. ~ Kurt Morris, All Music Guide All Music Guide

November 27, 2004: this cd is AMAZING!! geoff's vocals give the band a feeling of honesty, they sound like they are really passionate on the topics they sing about. this isnt your average emo-pop band that whines about ex's, Thursday sings about stuff that really matters in life.

July 23, 2004: Geoff Rickly is definitely high up on my top ten list of bad vocalists. I'm sure he's trying to embody the image of a jaded young man, but he just comes off as a whining little boy. Now, not everything about this album is bad, but in my humble opinion, most of it is. My friend had loaned me the album because he said it was awesome. So I popped the CD in and gave it a whirl. "Understanding in a Car Crash" is like a decent poem (sort of a eulogy) put to music that sounds like it was thrown together at the last minute. At first, I thought the music was okay, but then Rickly's vocals (if they weren't bad enough already) were suddenly overlapped by what sounded to me like some kind of animal caught in a bear trap. It was evidently a person screaming in unbearable grief. Let's just say that it wasn't the sort of scream one would expect out of a rock band. Now, a musician that really screams is someone like Sammy Hagar or Bon Scot. It seemed that this guy was not screaming, but bawling, and I for one don't enjoy hearing that, especially out of a guy who's in his twenties. I put the song out of its misery and went to another of his recommended songs, "Concealer." I listened for only thirty seconds and then fast forwarded, hoping that the song would get better. It didn't. I repeated this process with all the other songs and made my judgement. The musical talent of the band itself is mediocre at the most, in my opinion. Simple stuff. I'm not trash-talking the genre, as there are some emo bands that I like. However, Thursday seems to extinguish my interest in the style.
