    About this Artist

    Editorial Reviews

The content for this DVD-Audio only title has been derived from the vaults of the King Biscuit Flower Hour, the weekly syndicated live radio concert series. The show in question is from the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia on April 8, 1989, and features David Crosby (guitar/vocals) supported by an easily maneuverable combo including long-time CSN bandmate Mike Finnigan (keyboards), as well as Dan Dugmore (guitar), Jody Cortez (drums), and David Farragher (bass/vocals). Crosby's year or so behind bars not only vigorously promoted him into eventual sobriety, it seemingly gave the artist insight into his muse as well. If this show is any indication, he also regained significant strength as a performer. Somehow, the extreme abuse that Crosby inflicted upon his body did very little permanent damage to his tough-as-leather pipes. In fact, he has rarely sounded as commanding as he does here on both the old rockers "Almost Cut My Hair," "Wooden Ships," and "Long Time Gone," as well as the newer ones, especially the creepy, paranoid "Monkey And The Underdog," or the criminally under-performed "Night Time For The Generals" -- the latter of which would be among the strongest of Crosby's contributions to the American Dream (1989) CSN&Y reunion project. Equally effective are newer ballads "Tracks In The Dust," and "Lady Of The Harbour," which sit comfortably beside the noir masterpiece "Guinnevere," or the CSN deep cuts "In My Dreams," and "Delta." Those who do not have DVD-Audio playback capabilities can find the same recording under a number of alternate titles, with reconfigured running orders. Among the most prominent are King Biscuit Flower Hour [live] (1996), Greatest Hits Live (2003), and Déjà Vu [Live] (2001). Lindsay Planer, All Music Guide
