About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Once upon a time, these Brit rabble-rousers dubbed themselves "the only band that matters" -- a ballsy, yet ultimately pretty accurate assessment of their place in the late-'70s punk pantheon. This incendiary live document channels the steely power of the Clash at its peak, with every fusillade of ear-pinning guitar and every foamy fleck of guttersnipe angst captured in stark relief. Rather than simply present one concert snapshot, the Clash decided to take a more panoramic look back for this 17-song collection, culling tightly wound amphetamine shrieks like "Complete Control" and "London's Burning" from early club performances and fast-forwarding to the more free-flowing later period for groove-oriented tunes such as "The Magnificent Seven" and the doomy "The Guns of Brixton." That latter track is a rare vocal turn for bassist Paul Simenon, whose post-Clash years have been spent honing his art skills, which are well represented on the sleeve of this lovingly packaged set. David Sprague, Barnes & Noble

August 19, 2006: Let's see...17 songs performed LIVE by The Clash! Played to perfection. Are you kidding me? If you are a fan of The Clash this CD should be in your collection already. If it's not, what are you waiting for?

January 03, 2000: Today's alternative rock groups should be forced to sit and listen to the Clash for a week before they cut their next album.
