About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Silverchair's debut album, Frogstomp, faithfully follows the alternative rock tradition of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, which means that the group of Australian teenagers winds up sounding not like their idols, but like Stone Temple Pilots and Bush. For their age, their instrumental capabilities are quite impressive, as the guitars and vocals growl with the force of rockers in their early 20s. At the same time, their songwriting abilities aren't as strong, and they are never able to break away from the standard grunge formula. Nevertheless, the record does deliver a collection of songs replicating the thunder of "Tomorrow." Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

July 07, 2001: Though many people say that silverchair is just another pearl jam and nirvana rip off band, the music is totally different. true, the vocals sound similar to eddie vedder from pearl jam and the singer does look a bit like kurt cobain, people should remember that at that time, that was the fashion. you couldn't walk around without seeing some one dressing like or looking like nirvana. that is because their music was the basis of a new decade that screamed for attention that was so derserved. but there is one thing that sets silverchair apart from this-- their lyrics. on this cd, they talk about the anguish of losing someone dear, the effects of war, teenage depression, suicidal thoughts, child abuse, the cruelty of others, and the view from a childs' perspective of a divorce. and yet, this is all said with out one single word of foul language that is begining to pop into every other song you hear on the radio. One should listen to this cd before making judgements based on someone else's ideas.
