About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

If you think fusion music just isn't the real deal without electric guitars, souped-up synths, and built-to-be-battered drums, this recording will change your mind. Exchanging power axes for acoustic instruments, this trio of guitar superstars hit the stage ready to draw blood from each other. Playing a game of "can you top this?," they trade dizzying, dazzling solos. Most of the tracks have an Iberian flavor, although the unison guitar passages and lightning-flash solos place everything firmly in the fusion camp. The McLaughlin/De Lucia duet "Frevo Rasgado" has its lyrical moments and the McLaughlin/Di Meola duet "Short Tales of the Black Forest" is goofy fun, but things get awful frenetic most of the time. Amazingly, this is one gunfight where everyone is left standing. Steve Futterman, Barnes & Noble

March 07, 2002: It's impossible to sum up this album in words, so I'm not even going to try. All I have to say is that if I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, this would be it. The guitar playing is unbelievable, highly improvised, and nearly impossible to play at those speeds.
