About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Colpix Records originally released this CD in 1964 following Scott's pop/R&B hit "Hey Girl." Attempting to show versatility, Scott's ferocious tenor is reduced to soporific levels on "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" and "I Got a Woman"; the latter and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," "If I Had a Hammer," and others are hard to embrace because of the campy chorale backing vocals. A few sparks are shown on "What Do I See in That Girl" and Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hey Girl," but it took producer Bert Berns -- who cut riveting performances like "Are You Lonely for Me Baby" on Scott -- to forever etch him into soul-lovers' memory banks.
