About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Silverchair were slaves to their influences on their debut Frogstomp, but on their second album Freak Show, they're beginning to show signs of developing their own style. While they may still concentrate too heavily on Pearl Jam and Nirvana, they're beginning to fuse the elements together in a more interesting way and are writing stronger hooks. Freak Show still has its share of mediocre moments, and Daniel Johns should try to sing instead of scream, but the album shows potential that Frogstomp never did. October 12, 2005: Labeling these guys as Nirvana wannabes is absolutely horrible. They have talent that most people can only dream about and express their individualty and creativity in a style that is completely their own. While I am a die-hard Nirvana fan, I believe Silverchair is just as good, however, not shown the recognition they deserve. They are one of the best grunge bands of the 90's if not in the entire history. This is also probably one of my favorite albums by them because of how raw, pure, and amazing it is.

July 07, 2001: when their debut album, frogstomp, came out, the critics labled them as nirvana wannabes, sounding too much like pearl jam and their lead singer looking like a kurt cobain follower. so when freak show came out, the critics expected the same old stuff. but they heard was something completely different, something new and intriguing. this album reflects so much emotion, and so many feelings put into words that speak to the soul and make you think. though they be young, their talent exceeds those twice their age that are in the spotlight who don't deserve it.
