FORGET ABOUT IT opens with a beautiful, pleading love song titled "Stay," which features Krauss's crystalline soprano in a performance so delicate and fragile it recalls the McGarrigle Sisters at their most penetrating. Her quiet, contemplative, and deeply felt reading is aided by Jerry Douglas's sensitive Dobro soloing, lending a stark ambiance to the whole affair. "Stay" sets the stage for ten more well-crafted songs that look deep inside lovers. Todd Rundgren and Michael McDonald are among the more familiar songwriters, but Nashville veteran Hugh Prestwood outshines them all with "Ghost in This House." In a measured tone that's a marvel of barely contained emotional tumult, Krauss illuminates this devastating chronicle of a marriage gone sour. Produced by Krauss, FORGET ABOUT IT augments an acoustic sound with extra musicians and background singers for a bit of pop sheen but doesn't undermine the country and folk feel. Every note Krauss sings comes from deep inside her own soul, and the result is remarkable and mesmerizing. Forget about it? Impossible. David McGee, Barnes & Noble
