Another volume in Decca's lifestyle classical music series, For a Sunday Morning collects lively yet relaxing compositions, including Grieg's "Morning Mood," Bach's "Sleepers, Awake," and Johann Strauss II's "Morning Newspapers." Debussy's "Prelude to Afternoon of a Faun" and "En Bateau" lend a languid elegance to the album, while Lord Benjamin Britten's "Sunday Morning by the Beach" has a bustling, cosmopolitan feel that reflects a completely different -- but just as refreshing -- Sunday morning. Dvorák's "Waltz From Serenade for Strings" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Seventeen Come Sunday From English Folk Suite" add a pastoral feel to the album that gives it diversity without losing focus. Gabriel Fauré's "Sicilienne From Pelléas et Mélisande" and Holst's "Finale (The Dargason) From St Paul's Suite" are two of the other standout pieces from this collection. While the gentle, almost lulling feel of For a Sunday Morning is almost as appropriate for falling asleep as waking up, the album is pleasant at any time of day and for almost any occasion.
