Editorial Reviews

Unlike Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of Were-Rabbit, two of the other big-screen offerings from Nick Park's Aardman Studios that boasted full-fledged orchestral scores, the soundtrack to Flushed Away relies on pop songs to provide the backdrop for its tale of a pampered pet mouse who gets a one-way trip to London's sewers. Aside from being a little too familiar, songs like Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?," Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?" and the Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You" are chosen and used well. Hugh Jackman provides the voice of Roddy the Mouse and sings on "Ice Cold Rita" along with the Slugs, the film's squeaky-voiced, slimy-cute sewer denizens (who sound especially good on a version of Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely"). Excerpts of Harry Gregson-Williams' score round out this enjoyable, but not particularly ambitious, collection. Heather Phares, All Music Guide
