Editorial Reviews

What a score! "Tradition," "If I Were a Rich Man," "To Life," "Sunrise, Sunset," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," not to mention such gems as “Far from the Home I Love,” “Do You Love Me,” and “Now I Have Everything” testify to the inspiration of composers Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock. With a dream cast including Zero Mostel as Tevye, Bea Arthur, Bet Convy, and Austin Pendelton, the 1964 Broadway smash translated beautifully when originally recorded. The exuberance and poignancy of this great show were fully captured, making this an essential for any lover of Broadway at its best. William Pearl, Barnes & Noble

December 08, 2003: The actor's voices are far better than those on the movie casts', and the performance of "Far From the Home I Love" is beautiful. Zero Mostel really adds warmth and humor and everyone is very in character. My only problem with it is that at times, the arrangements are not climactic enough. Overall excellent!

December 10, 2002: If I didn't already know Fiddler, and was forming an opinion based on this recording, I would hate this show. While the vocalists are very talented, their voices don't fit the style. The movie sound track or a newer production from the stage would be a better buy.
