About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

It takes a rare artist to transform a hodgepodge of ingredients into a pièce-de-résistance, but like an artful chef, upstart pop star Alanis Morissette is clever enough to pull it off. Not quite a greatest hits and not quite a sweeping archive, the two-disc Feast on Scraps assembles live material, outtakes, and, on its DVD component, plenty of peeks behind Alanis's public persona. The first disc is a short-but-sweet collection of nine tunes that were recorded alongside those on Under Rug Swept, and while it's clear why she initially marked these as outtakes, highlights abound. The snarling "Sister Blister," for instance, wouldn't have made sense on Under Rug Swept, but here its stark candor and guitar assault work perfectly. The gently wafting folk trifle "Offer" is a 180-degree turn from that stance, but again, Morissette's lilting delivery holds things together beautifully. Likewise, an acoustic rendering of her hit "Hands Clean" reaches its mark. The DVD sprinkles behind-the-scenes moments -- including a telling interlude in which the singer collapses emotionally while writing "Surrendering" -- amid a series of strong live performances of songs both well-known ("Ironic," "Thank U") and thankfully unearthed ("Unprodigal Daughter," the "Purgatorying" trilogy). Consider it a moveable -- and often moving -- feast. David Sprague, Barnes & Noble

November 13, 2007: this is a dvd/cd combo. the dvd is a compliation of live concerts--most of which is taken from a concert in holland during the Under Rug Swept tour. the concert footage is okay, but i must say the band she plays with sucks. she hired this band around 2001 and has been playing with them since, and the way they play her older songs from JLP and SFIJ... it's just not good. so, don't expect for the concer to be as musically fulfilling as "Jagged Little Pill Live." HOWEVER, what this dvd has that JLP Live doesn't are all of the hilarious behind the scenes stuff that is in between the songs--including the infamous "raise the bar on your own beauty." this whole dvd is worth it for that 2 minutes of sheer hilarity. the CD contains 8 b-sides and an acoustic version of "hands clean." interestingly, this collection of b-sides is actually my second favorite album by her. some of these songs are ten times better than what ended up on the final cut of URS, including "fear of bliss," "sister blister," and "purgatorying." i would have given this 5 stars, but because of the poor arrangements of the songs on the live dvd, it got knocked down to four. other than that, this is a highly recommended title.

January 09, 2003: Its amazing-alanis is a total riot. And u can't take your eyes off her during her unbelievable performances-hard to believe so much energy came out of this one concert-well maybe not considering its alanis morissette, whos a fluckin ball of glowing energy-If u thaught u knew alanis before, you'll be pleasantly mistaken. The cd portion is truely inspiring and you'll get lost in not only the words that she wrote but the music she produced as well. You'll be drawn to rewatch all those behind the scene moments-thinkn is she for real-omg did she just say that-does her talent know no ends-hopefully not-buy it, watch it and tell a friend to do the same. It's for the good of the world.
