About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Folk veteran and bluegrass guitarist extraordinaire Norman Blake counts multiple Grammy nominations and the respect of artists ranging from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Bob Dylan in his portfolio. For his latest outing, Blake mixes traditional dancing tunes, such as "Headlight Reel" and "Rag Baby Jig," with original songs in the mountain tradition ("The Winds of Time Won't Change"). A tasty selection of 15 songs, with moods running from the humorous "Cat Came Back the Very Next Day" to the bittersweet "Faded Flowers in Old Love Letters," suggests the range of his talents -- talents that have led to gigs with Kris Kristofferson, Joan Baez, and Johnny Cash, among others. Though he's clearly steeped in the music of his northern Georgia mountain homeland, he's not one to be held back by tradition. This recording offers persuasive evidence that Norman Blake is one of the few keeping those skills fresh for the new century. Kerry Dexter, Barnes & Noble
