Editorial Reviews

This CD is a bit of a mixed bag. Drummer Don Lamond's no-name big band is featured on three numbers from 1977 and five from 1982, including a Woody Herman medley ("Early Autumn/Four Brothers/Apple Honey") and some newer material. The ten remaining songs are from 1981 and have Lamond in a quartet with trumpeter Ben Clement, pianist Don Scalleta and bassist Ron Gilotti. Terry Lamond (Don's wife) has vocals on eight of those numbers; although her voice is pleasant, she does not stand out from the crowd, and her improvising talents are fairly minimal. Overall, there are few real memorable moments to this OK effort, a decent but far from essential set. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
