Editorial Reviews

MC5 fans looking at this installment in BMG's budget-priced Extended Versions series might find themselves wondering, "Just when did the MC5 record for a BMG-affiliated label?" And the answer is, they didn't -- Extended Versions pulls ten tracks from the live compilation Motor City Is Burning, which was first released in Europe in 2000 and licensed by BMG for this release. Unfortunately, this reworking of the material does nothing to improve its poor sound quality, but the MC5's performances (apparently recorded in 1969) are strong and powerful on this set, and two of the band's most elusive songs, "Revolutionary Blues" and "Black To Comm," have been included (along with a cover of the blues classic "Born Under A Bad Sign"). Factor in the disc's low list price, and Extended Versions isn't a bad buy for completists and hard-core fans (and is at least a better value than the original Motor City Is Burning disc). ~ Mark Deming ~ Mardem, All Music Guide All Music Guide
