Silvio Rodriguez's 2002 album Expedicion is a smooth, surprisingly polished affair, surrounding his gentle vocals and searching, political lyrics in lush strings and horns. Equally romantic and challenging, songs like "Toti," "Amanecer," and "Ese Hombre" showcase Rodriguez's vulnerability, playfulness, and wit as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Much more elaborate and fleshed out than his previous work, Expedicion suggests an interesting new direction for Rodriguez, more than two decades after his career began.
