About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

On his good vibration-packed debut, Canadian MC K-OS (pronounced chaos) invites his less-conscious rap brethren to cease with the gangsta posturing and gettin' jiggy. Instead of polluting the airwaves with more materialistic, misogynistic, and violent drivel, on Exit, K-OS (a.k.a. Kevin Brereton) offers plenty of positive-minded, Afrocentric, and spiritually attuned lyrics set to an eclectic rock, soul, and world music-laced soundscape that will please fans of the Fugees and the Black Eyed Peas. At a time when hip-hop lyrics are scarcely worth quoting, K-OS compels listeners to pay attention to his cerebral rhymes. For instance, on the scratch-accented "Fantastique," K-OS quips, "Pimps just react to things. Men make them happen," and on the old-school tribute "Neutroniks," he declares himself a "shape-shifting lyrical being here to terminate the bling, bling." As K-OS proves on several cuts, including the melodic "Call Me," where he chides his fair-weather friends, and the acoustic guitar-driven ballad "Superstar, Pt. 2," the rapper is just as dynamic a singer. With the versatile and thought-provoking Exit, K-OS makes a grand entrance. Tracy E. Hopkins, Barnes & Noble
