In a sense, 2009's Everybody Dance! is the coming-out party for longtime gospel producer James Roberson. Often seen behind the boards for the likes of inspirational luminaries from Beverly Crawford to Norman Hutchins, Roberson steps to the mike on his own debut and proves himself a dervish of a musical preacher. The song choice tends toward the modern (befitting the record's overall feel) and includes standouts by many of the greats of soul-gospel, from the Winans to Malcolm Speed. The title track and opening single, a fevered number melding club emotion with organ riffs and testimonial refrains, gives ample hint to the rest of the album; Everybody Dance! shows a devotional touch as well as a desire for musical exploration, but mostly it's just simply impassioned. ~ Jason Thurston, All Music Guide All Music Guide
