This collection is a broad retrospective on a career spanning 15 CD releases over almost 20 years. This is a delightful mix of old classics (such as the hauntingly beautiful Conversation With A Ghost, or The World Ain't Slowing Down from Me, Myself, and Irene), old treasures performed either live (The Speed of Trees, God's Promise) or re-recorded (Words, If You Break Down) and a pair of new songs - the joyful Welcome Home To Maine, and If She's The One. If you have heard his music before, you will want the pair of CD's to not only round out your collection but to explore some of his old gems in a new setting. If you haven't heard his music, or are only just beginning to sample some of the best modern 'folk' music in America, this is the place to start.

I'm a pretty avid Ellis Paul fan, and perhaps a bit biased as well, but this collection is absolutely essential for long term fans, as well as those who are new to Ellis Paul's music and want a comprehensive view of his work. For me the music, the songs, were surprises, in an unexpected combination and place, really like running into old and dear friends unexpectedly, some who were exactly the same, and some who had aged ever so gracefully. And, there are a few new friends to add to the pleasure.
