About this Artist

About This Item

Escala, the glamorous string quartet that caused a stir on TV's Britain's Got Talent in 2008, releases their first album after being signed by Simon Cowell. Neither a manufactured ensemble nor aimed at the saturated crossover market, Escala is the freshest and most innovative sound of 2009.

The quartet comprises four talented young women -- Victoria Lyon, Izzy Johnston, Chantal Leverton, and Tasya Hodges -- who studied at London's most prestigious music schools. The four became close friends after touring with the boyband McFly and decided to work together to find new ways of fusing contemporary music with classical instruments.

Simon Cowell was bowled over by Escala the moment he first heard them, saying: "They are completely original and they have got it all -- remarkable dedication and training, looks, intelligence, the right attitude to make it big, and music that has wide appeal."

Escala's debut album features a wide-ranging program, including Ennio Morricone's "Chi Mai," Craig Armstrong's haunting "Finding Beauty," Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir," "Children" by the DJ Robert Miles, Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars," "Live and Let Die" by Wings, and Escala's signature tune, "Palladio."
