Despite her Sex book charade which completely overshadowed this masterpiece, it's easily her most accomplished lyrically. While just looking at it most would think it would be a soundtrack to that ridiculous book, it's completely the opposite. It's an early housey-techno-dance dance tribute to love AND sex...and often times the repercussions of both. Most of the tracks are cold, but the rest are complex...co-dependence (Bad Girl), AIDS (In This Life), verbal abuse (Words), covet (Thief Of Hearts), homophobia (Why's It So Hard). This is the "old" Madonna, who then was saturated with sex, was destined to make. And she did it with complete intelligence and dignity.

I love every song on this album, especially Bye Bye Baby. Erotica has Madonna producing some different sound techniques, but there's some of her classic sounds on here, too. An overall excellent pop album!
