Editorial Reviews

The soundtrack to a movie that was barely released, Empire Records is a fine collection of mainstream alternative pop/rock, featuring two hit singles -- the menacing Motown-meets-Bowie pop of Edwyn Collins' "A Girl like You," and the folky "Till I Hear It from You" from The Gin Blossoms. The rest of the album is hit-or-miss -- mostly noticeable for the debut appearance of The Martinis, a new band from former Pixies Joey Santiago and David Lovering -- but it is enjoyable, nevertheless. March 11, 2009: I will agree with everyone when they say this Cd is incomplete as a soundtrack to my alltime favorite movie "Empire Records", but as a compilation of mid 90's rock, you can't beat this CD. (well, maybe the soundtrack to "Singles"...) This is totally a cd to listen to from start to finish, it will totally bring you back to where ever you were in 1995...

Its a pity they never released a volume 2. What I ended up doing was pausing the movie during the end credits, I wrote down the names and bands of all the other songs they listed, and made my own "Empire Records" Volume 2 cd by downloading all the missing songs. Worked for me, everyone should try it. :)

January 30, 2007: How can you leave out The The? Shameful, it was going to be the only reason that I purchased this albumn.
