This brief, ten-song sampler set from Collectables Records pairs slide guitarist Elmore James with bluesman and songwriter Arthur Crudup, with each artist getting five tracks each. It might have been better if Crudup's selections came first in the sequence, since he is at best a rudimentary guitarist (his songs, however, are classics) and nobody in his right mind would ever want to follow James and his powerful, roaring slide guitar sound. It's an odd pairing, to be sure, but sort of intriguing. Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
