About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

In addition to keeping it real, members of the neo-metal community strive to keep it in the family. Korn helped Limp Bizkit get a record deal, brought them on the road, and nurtured them to stardom, and now the Bizkit are doing the same for Staind. Signed by Limp frontman Fred Durst, Staind play brooding music that sounds like a potent mixture of Alice in Chains, Tool, and Pantera. Less blatantly funky than the rest of the Family Values clan, Staind nonetheless commands attention with haunting guitar lines, fuzz-soaked riffs, and vocals that seesaw between understated moans and hair-raising howls. The band's debut, Disfunction, is more musically consistent than most Korn-bred bands. It's also more genuinely tortured, with lyrics like, "You can feel my anger, you can feel my pain/You can feel my torment driving me insane" ("Mudshovel") and "Such a cancer on the face of everything that's beautiful" ("Just Go") driving the band ever-deeper into the abyss. March 20, 2005: This is an awesome cd. It is extremely heavy. Dysfunction is probably my favorite out of all of Staind's cds. It is by far better than their first album, Tormented. If you're in the mood for something heavy, I definately recommend it, but if you're looking for something along the lines of Break the Cycle or 14 Shades of Grey then you're looking at the wrong cd. Just listen to the samples. Dysfunction is a whole lot different than any of their other cds. Be warned though, even though Dysfunction doesn't have a Parental Advisory, it has a lot of very bad language, although it doesn't have anything against Christianity other than "All the demons in my head won't leave me"- A Flat.
