Editorial Reviews

Flogging Molly boasts a feisty Irish heart and pub rock influences aplenty on Drunken Lullabies, an boisterous collection of hyper-energetic songs rendered in a rush of patriotic frenzy. Lead singer Dave King leads an raucous army of guitars, violins, whistles, and accordions through torrid tales of freedom, political struggle, love found, and love unrequited bolstered by a rhythm section steeped in a pure punk rock aesthetic. Engineered by Steve Albini, this album explodes with the exuberance of a live performance, leaving in the sour notes and call-and-response verses that are equally infectious and endearing. The title track kicks off the set in a breakneck speed that never lets up, decrying the ills of modern society whilst drowning sorrows, hopes, and fears in alcohol and camaraderie. "Death Valley Queen" is a dirge of Dylanesque proportions where King bemoans the rejection he suffers from a not-so-fair maiden with courage and deep sorrow. But misery, no matter how temporary, loves good company. And there's plenty to be found on Drunken Lullabies. After one listen, you'll probably wish you were Irish. ~ Tom Semioli, All Music Guide All Music Guide

March 21, 2009: These guys and gal, know how to play great music.

I've gone to see their anual Green 17 tour sense I was 16 and they have always given the best concerts.

This CD will probably always be their best, not that the others were bad in any way but, 'Drunken Lullabies' really reels you in with every song. The very first song captures you.

Their beliefs are on the same wavelengths as John Lennon but they've got a edgier angst like Rancid - together they balance out great Irish Punk sounds.

Definelty worth a listen and I definatly recremmend you go see at least one of their concerts before you die - because when you see them once, you just want to see them everyday of your life!

April 11, 2006: I think this is Flogging Molly's best CD. Sure Swagger, and Within a Mile of home are good and have songs like Blackfriday rule, devil's dance floor, salty dog (Swagger), Screaming at the wailing wall, Sevin deadly sins, Factory girl, and Tobacco Island ( within a mile of home)... but Drunken Lullabies has to to be there best CD for the bands choice of rythem and lyrics. this cd has to be one of the most political CDs I've ever listened to. But it is still my favorite cd. In Drunken Lullabies listen to the song Drunken Lullabies, Whats left of the flag, Rebels of the sacrade heart, and Rare ould times (at least thoughs 4)and you will agree that the Irish strugle and the IRA plays a big part in alot of Flogging Molly's CDs. Flogging Molly is the best band ever, they are true to them selves, and they don't care if they get introuble or not because of the lyrics. Keep up the good work. Erin Go Bragh!
