If you've had it up to your eyeballs in kicky teen shows like "Dawson's Creek" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and are about to scream if you see another preview for a movie like, well, SCREAM, then you've probably vowed to stay far away from DRIVE ME CRAZY. The movie, starring teenaged witch and recent wannabe sex-symbol Melissa Joan Hart, doesn't stray far from the pack when it comes to the unoriginal plot. The music, however, is an entirely different story. Yes, the theme song for the movie is Britney Spears's latest single, "You Drive Me Crazy." The peppy and festive remix version included here is enough to make ardent party-goers get up and dance. It's also catchy enough to make wallflowers sing along, although it may eventually drive them crazy. This soundtrack also includes another pop tune by the unstoppable Backstreet Boys. The Jack D. Elliot Remix of "I Want It That Way" reveals a techno influence before settling into the familiar harmonizing of the Nick, A. J., Brian, Howie, and Kevin. The result is a seemingly fresher, cooler sound than what your eight-year-old sister may listen to. Not all of the songs are as sugary as the first. With tunes from rockers like Barenaked Ladies and Matthew Sweet, as well as a cover of 1980s hit, "Keep On Loving You" by girl punkers the Donnas, this disc is consistently upbeat and perfect for the next social occasion.
