Dragonheart remains Randy Edelman's most memorable and fully realized film score, achieving a unique fusion of epic fantasy and light comedy that fully emphasizes the composer's strengths. Edelman's main theme, "World of the Heart," will be instantly familiar to anyone who's seen a movie trailer in the last decade of so -- a soaring melody that's equal parts grandeur and adventure, it's been recycled umpteen times over by films with none of the sword-and-sorcery elements of Dragonheart, but its all-purpose romanticism is undeniably potent. Between the widescreen themes that bookend the score, however, Edelman returns to the intimate character-driven themes that are his bread and butter, capturing an energy and whimsy that perfectly complement the onscreen action. November 24, 2004: Some people would interpret the word "breathtaking" as a sweeping, lush, romantic piece. But for this soundtrack, for sheer emotion, danger, and adventure, it literally takes your breath away. This soundtrack is just plain fantastic. I have seen the film numerous times, and have poured over the music just as much, and am simply amazed at the music coming from my speakers. The main themes are terrific. The "World of the Heart" theme is a very emotional piece, while the music for the Bowen and Draco duo is a wild, high-flying adventure piece that continues to thrill. I would encourage all to purchase this soundtrack as soon as possible. Hats off to you, Maestro Edelman. Keep it up.
