Although drummer/producer Cecil Brooks III gets top billing, this set is very much a feature for organist Gene Ludwig. While most organ records match the Hammond B-3 with guitar, drums, and sometimes tenor, Double Exposure is a set of organ-drums duets with Ludwig providing the basslines. Brooks gets his breaks but Ludwig naturally dominates the music, chugging and swinging his way through six veteran standards, a blues by Brooks, and a Stevie Wonder song. Influenced by Jimmy Smith but having his own sound in the tradition, Gene Ludwig is heard throughout in top form, creating one of his best-ever recordings. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
