Editorial Reviews

Is it possible for a band to list the same influences as progressive metallists Dream Theater (Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc.), as well as bands from the complete opposite end of the rock spectrum, like Nirvana? The Mukilteo, WA, trio Fall of Troy proves that it can indeed be done on their sophomore full-length, 2005's Doppelganger. It's obvious from the get-go that the chaps -- all of whom are either still teenaged or barely in their twenties -- have obviously logged significant amounts of time "familiarizing" themselves with their instruments (in other words, long hours in their bedrooms shredding away), and melodic emocore elements can be detected as well. In fact, on tracks like "F.C.R.P.E.M.I.X.," you can't help but be reminded of Sunny Day Real Estate circa their heady Diary days. Elsewhere, the album-opening "I Just Got This Symphony Goin'" somehow manages to combine the two-handed guitar tapping of Eddie Van Halen with screams that would make Mike Patton proud. And you've got to love a band that comes up with whacked-out Zappa-esque song titles as like "We Better Learn to Hotwire a Uterus" and "Whacko Jacko Steals the Elephant Man's Bones." The Fall of Troy prove that, contrary to popular belief, not all young rock bands are longing to become the next blink-182. Greg Prato, All Music Guide

November 20, 2005: If you are tired of the radio rock and are looking for something that's catching, innovative, and just down right different then look no further. The Fall of Troy is the best album that I've listened to this year. And I listen to a nice range of music: From the likes of radio stars such as The Used,Thursday,Thrice, Blink 182, Green Day, etc., to the bands that don't get radio play, such as The Early November(one of my favorite emo bands),The Format,Fear before the March of Flames,to Chiodos. Ok you get the point. But if you are feeling for something catchy with pop choruses laced with screaming(Don't get this mixed up for a Screamo band)and intricate guitars in each of their eleven innovative songs, then pick up Fall of Troy and truly listen to one of the best rock bands out there.

September 25, 2005: I'm just listening to a few songs i downloaded from them and now i'm convinced, i need to buy this cd. The guitar work is amazing, the songs are catchy, and their lead singer actually knows when to sing and when to scream. At times they come off as a mix of The Number 12 Looks Like You and The Mars Volta, but that's a good thing. If you're into punk/hardcore/grindcore, you need to listen to this band.
