About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Epic/Legacy's 1999 reissue of Greatest Hits improves on the original 1969 collection in a number of ways. First of all, the original Hickory versions of "Catch the Wind" and "Colours" are included instead of re-recordings, which is enough to make this new edition preferable, but the compilers have also chosen to include the original mono version of these hits instead of the stereo cuts that were on the first edition. Plus, they've added four excellent bonus tracks: "Atlantis," "To Susan on the West Coast Waiting," "Barabajagal," and "Riki Tiki Tavi." All of that means that this expanded and updated Greatest Hits is a near-perfect single-disc summary of Donovan's most popular material and hit singles. As these songs prove, Donovan and producer Mickie Most could craft irresistible folk-rock and psychedelic pop singles. Some of the sounds and sentiments may sound a little dated, but the productions and the songs -- "Sunshine Superman," "Jennifer Juniper," "Wear Your Love Like Heaven," "Season of the Witch," "Mellow Yellow," "Hurdy Gurdy Man," "Epistle to Dippy," "There Is a Mountain," "Lalena," plus the aforementioned bonus tracks -- have proven to be classics of the era, and this is the best place to get them all on one collection. May 01, 2006: As great as this collection is, Why is the "sgt pepper" of Donovan Leitch never mentioned? If you can find it, GET "OPEN ROAD",(released 1970), It's Unbelievable! It's avlable on the Repertoire CD lable if you can find it. P.S. Exelent sound Quality.

August 04, 2004: I bought this album for Hurdy Gurdy Man. The wailing guitar and psychodelic vocals is mesmerizing. A friend of mine says Jimmy Page played guitar and John Paul Jones produced this song? Other songs on the album were fantastic. In order of my favorites: Hurdy Gurdy Man, Sunshine Superman, Season of the Witch, Jennifer Juniper, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, There is a Mountain, Jennifer Juniper. There's something for everybody in this mix. This is a very diverse collection that won't disappoint.
