About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Aubrey Haynie's debut, recorded at the ripe old age of 23, is a tour de force in bluegrass, country, and Western swing instrumentals. Taking the title track from Haynie's version of the Flatt & Scruggs classic, Doin' My Time never disappoints, as the young artist effortlessly tosses off amazing renditions of traditionals like "Cherokee Shuffle," "Dark Hollow," and "Turkey in the Straw." The jazzy "Cracker Jack" and the Texas swing of "Foolin' Around" are also exceptional. Just as impressive are Haynie's own entries into the genre, with the solemn "Leavin' Rosine," featuring Bela Fleck and Jerry Douglas, "Montgomery Bell," and the gorgeous "Austin's Dream," on which Haynie adds tenor guitar to his fiddle. Given time, these could be the songs that the next generation of bluegrass musicians will be learning, and Haynie's, being young enough, will still be around to teach them firsthand. February 21, 2000: I've not heard an album like this in years. This truly comes from the heart of the singer/songwriter. I gather some of the songs on the album is of family members. this is truly an inspirational album, anyone would be proud to have.
