About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Easily the most anticipated debut recording in hip-hop history, Snoop Doggy Dogg's first album set a new standard for West Coast gangsta rap. The man one critic referred to as the only rapper who can drawl consonants got his start rapping on tracks by Dr. Dre. Snoop's distinctive drawl remains a fine match for Dre's smooth Clintonesque funk, and while his lyrical content was fairly straightforward gangsta rap, his delivery made it entertaining. Tracks like the Slick Rick cover "Lodi Dodi" and "Gin and Juice," are bona fide party classics, while the Dramatics collaboration, "Doggy Dogg World," underscores Snoop's penchant for '70s soul revisions. With colorful cameos by artists like Dat Nigga Daz, Lady of Rage, Warren G, and Korrupt, DOGGYSTYLE was one of the most entertaining rap records of the decade. Martin Johnson, Barnes & Noble

February 22, 2003: With this Cd, Snoop made his "solo" mark. In my opinion, this is the BEST CD that he put out. WHY? Because it was mellow. What I mean is, when he rapped here it was something that you could relate to and sing along. Even though today you can sing along with most of what is being put out, it is just not the same. There are songs out there that make you wonder what they are saying, muchless what they were thinking when they recorded it. Doggystyle was just the right blend of rap and music blended together, along with talent that only Snoop could have pulled off. It is a classic... especially for those of us who were very active in the club scene when it came out. It will be one CD that will be cherished forever for it brings all of the good (and some bad) times back. We had a blast back then, and this CD just helped make it memoriable. I really hope that the younger generations have a relic that passes in their life, like we did. Thanks Snoop.
