I bought this when it first came out years ago. There was some bitterness about seeing her going solo. "Why," needs no explanation. It's just the perfect relationship song no matter what. Admittedly, on the first listen (on cassette, no less), I thought there were a ton of ballads...too many. So glad it was on cassette because to get to the more upbeat songs I had to listen to the others. There's something for every and all stages of life...you know, the big issues. Relationships, self, loss, discovery, and - ultimately (on the cd) - enjoying the heck out of whatever and wherever you are. Got a really deep crush on someone? "Cold," just NAILS everything you're feeling. I think "Cold" might hold the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard in any song. "Come to me, run to me, do and be done with me..." "Everything I possess given in tenderness, wrapped in a ribbon of glass..." "Dying is easy, it's living that scared me to death," "Catch me and let me dive under 'cause I want to swim in the pools of your eyes." Get the video compilation, too. Again, some of the tracks might feel subdued, but, damn...just beautiful. "Money Can't Buy It," [might just tie "Cold" for best track] the video relies on Lennox in a beautiful dress with a twisted towel on her head, lounging in a beautiful Rococo room. I expected more because the song has some rises into awesome rock beltings of the chorus. No flash. Just her standing at that point...and it sends absolute CHILLS! There's a great rap in this song, simply filmed with her face pressed against the mirror, an insane and manic face eating every scary word, eyes wild, then soft, then wild again...everyone I know either screamed after that part or burst into laughter because it is so simple and intense and FUN!
