Editorial Reviews

Dinah Shore was an established TV star but rather forgotten as a recording artist when she cut the two albums reissued on this CD in 1960, which may help explain why they were not big sellers. It certainly had nothing to do with the quality of the music. Both sessions feature collaborations with André Previn: on the first ten songs (actually cut after the last ten), Previn is the pianist leading a rhythm section, the tempos are slow and the mood is romantic. On the second half, Previn leads the orchestra in lush arrangements at equally slow speed. The songs are mostly standards, and Shore performs them with an assurance that makes you wonder why she isn't ranked with some of her contemporaries as an accomplished pop-jazz vocalist. Maybe the TV-star tag again. Here's a chance to rediscover her. William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
