Okay, if you like metal go buy this. It's like the best album of the year.

I for one am pleased that the sequel to the best-selling death metal album in history did not go for a more mainstream sound, but instead went in the other direction. It's still melodic-death/thrash at its core, but this time around there are more hard-hitting riffs and less slower-tempo tracks (with maybe the exception of Black Fire Upon Us). If anything, the guitar work and composition has gotten better, and the album as a whole is more fluid in its transitions than the previous release. Like the previous Dethalbum, certain tracks--such as "Bloodlines" and "Burn the Earth"--just stand out for their exceptional greatness, but I also think I like the album as a whole a more than I did the first release. The Deluxe Edition has a very nice disc full of videos from the 2008 live show, and at the current price it's an incredible deal. If there was one thing I was sad about not seeing on this release, it was the "Takin' it Easy" song by William Murderface and Toki Wartooth. I was hoping, at least maybe on the Deluxe Edition extras, to get a full-length version of this great, idiotic song. That's really a minor complaint. Fans will love this album, and other metal fans might enjoy this particular album more for its technical excellence and composition.
