Coming from the same line of Definitive Collection albums as the Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque records on Wrasse, this collection of Elis Regina is of a similar quality: excellent. The notes on the recordings are somewhat lacking, but the music is all there to be heard. The classic songs from throughout her career are all here, from her early solo days through the tropicalia movement and beyond. All with Regina's trademark emotional intensity. Most of the recordings are from the mid-'70s, after the world outside of Brazil took notice of her abilities. Whether those versions or those recorded prior to the fateful Montreaux performance are superior is up for debate, but regardless of the outcome, these recordings are divine. An excellent opening album for someone curious about Regina's work, and also a nice one for an early foray into the run of tropicalia/MPB/bossa nova, as well. Adam Greenberg, All Music Guide
