Editorial Reviews

The soundtrack to the Hughes Brothers' tribute to early-'70s blaxploitation gets the sound of the era right, featuring hits by The O'Jays, the Spinners, Isaac Hayes, Al Green, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, among others. The inclusion of Danny Elfman's instrumental theme interrupts the flow of the album, but for the most part, Dead Presidents is a first-rate collection of prime soul. November 22, 2002: The Dead Presidents soundtracks are the soul collection starter set. These albums introduced me to a more intelligent side of Curtis Mayfield. (Freddies Dead is good but hardly his best) Isaac Hayes proves why he is the man children should go to for woman trouble. James Brown, Al Green, and Stevie all have great tracks on these albums. If you haven't gotten in to this kind of music yet. This record will do it. If you are into it all the best songs are here. I recommend it highly.
